Fundraiser for Mama Cats!

Kitten season is nearly upon us, and we will really need help if we are to save some tiny lives!! We are so thankful to TL2 Productions for hosting this fundraiser for our mama cats. It is at The Pink Door in Louisville KY.

For personal reasons, I'm leaving Tribe.net. While here, I connected with many wonderful people I've come to call friends, both close and just acquaintence. Thank you for your support and compassion since we met, most especially over the last year. As some of you know, I had a hypoglycemia seizure last month (that's what I get for not eating after a night of drinking...) and I'm not "technically" supposed to be driving right now. Tribal Night 6

Anna and I have in the works Tribal Night 6. The High Five Bar (the same establishment that has hosted all previous TNs) has asked Raks Jahanni to organize another one just like the last one. Then I thought “just like the last one”? What made the last one so special??? Then it hit me…I think it was the dancers that stayed after the show they remember the most. Good times…

Anyway, Anna and I said “sure, why not?”, and the bar says “ok, you have October 20”. Moments later we secured a more than eager local band who heard the words belly and dancers and agreed to play after the show and beat their chests. I think the newly single drummer was the one that spoke up first. They’re not the usual type of band you would see at a belly dancing event, but then again Anna and I aren’t “usual” either. The band rocks my socks off and that’s all that matters.

So here’s the thing…we can’t have a Tribal Night if we don’t have any dancers that want to perform, right? We would like as many people to get back to us within A DAY to tell us if they would like to perform or we won’t have it…seriously! Again, the date is Oct. 20 (a Saturday), and everyone is welcome. You best believe this will be a Halloween themed dance night…we can’t let slide by the one time of year when Anna feels normal, can we??? Feel free to come whacked out in your most disturbing ensemble. Our special friends in dance (Zimra, Chandara Gamal (and troupe), Kira LaFave, Yasmilah, Zahira, Sacred Shimmy, Rachyl, Gypsy Soul, Laylia, Khalida Tribe, Crescent Moon) who have supported us in the past are always welcome to perform. Hit me back if you’re down….

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's law. I
have learned a great deal from you and try to share that knowledge with as
many people as I can. When someone tries to define the homosexual
lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly
states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from
you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow
them.

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and
female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of
mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but, not to Canadians. Can you
clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery as sanctioned in
Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price
for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in
her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19-24. The problem is, how
do I tell? I have tried asking, but, most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it
creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev. 1:9. The problem is my
neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite
them?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus
35:2 clearly states that he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated
to kill him myself, or should I let the police do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an
abomination Lev.11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I
don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there degrees of abomination?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I
have a defect in my sight. I have to wear reading glasses.

Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

8. Most of my friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair
around their temples, even though it is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27?
How should they die?

9. I know that the touching of the skin of a dead pig makes me
unclean Lev.11:6-8, but, may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev 19:19 by planting two
different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing two
different kinds of thread (Cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse
and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to the trouble of
getting the whole town together to stone them -Lev.24:10-16? Couldn't we
just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people
who sleep with their in-laws? - Lev.20:14

I know that you have studied these things extensively and thus, enjoy
considerable expertise in such matters, I am confident that you can help.

Pet Talk- barking Dogs when you are in the house- but teaching class..

Esse' the lovable and now healthy basset hound loves to bark while I am teaching at John's house. Ignoring him isn't working- and he can't be trusted out without a really close eye- which is bad for trying to teach.

My vet suggested getting the new Citronella Bark collars... Has anyone used one of these things? And if the odorless one has no odor (grin) is it still Citronella?

Ialso Stumbled upon this on the internet... is this true?
Upon the recent acquisition of a cat, I was surprised to find such a vast and adament opposition to the declawing of these animals. While many, if not most I have encountered, offer the procedure in a humane and painless way, almost every adoption angecy had stipulations of adoption contracts and/or agreements with vets not to declaw their animals. The main argument against declawing seems to be (a) The procedure is cruel, (b) the animal will be unable to defend it self against other cats or predators. While I am not a vet, allow me to present some rebuttals for these arguments.
Declawing is inhumane and/or cruel: The animal suffers little to no pain form the operation, as it is under anesthesia. It's less complex than spaying a female animal. Recovery time is minimal, and the paws are bandaged for only a day or so. Also, more advanced and lower impact surgeries are available now, such as laser claw removal. As far as the animal is concerned, it has no idea it's claws are missing. In fact, it continues to behave as if it still had claws (the behavior of sharpening and scratching).
The Animal will be unable ot defend itself: This is only true depending on the procedure done. The most common (and accepted) form of declawing is "front claws only". In the wild, the front claws are used for a very narrow purpose: killing prey, and "challenging" other animals. In a domesticated their is no need for killing prey (and I have had cats that often still did after being declawed). As far as confrontations with other animals, the front claws serve only as a means of challenging other animals (swating, hissing, arching the back). The claws are not needed for this. If you observe two cats who do actually begin to fight, you will notice the hind claws are used instead, and the defensive position of the animal involves putting the posterior end towards the attacker and swiping, allowing for a quicker get away. The animal can still climb trees (all the way to the top!) as I've personally seen numerous times. The hind claws are used for gripping, while the front paws "hug" the tree, stabiling the cat.
So, the removal of the front claws gives the animal no disadvantage under domestication. The removal of the rear claws is usually not done or needed, as the animal will not tear up your furniture with them. If the cat is 100% an indoor animal, then rear declawing is usually not a problem. The advantages are numerous, as it won't shred your furniture, accidently hurt small children, or develop ingrown claws. for people with small living spaces, the animal won't require a scratching post, or need scolding when it decides to use your leather couch instead. There are legitimate concerns with botched surgery by incompetent vets. However, if a vet is regularly mal practicing, it will probably reflect in the the health of his/her patients. For anything related to the health of your animal, you should always choose an experienced vet you know and trust.

My dog eats -part 2 hospital

What apoor little fellow! I think someone has it out for our puppy...

We had to take him into the vet hospital today.. we went about 7pm and just got home with the puppy still there... poor thing has hives, and a painful belly... they thought he has something contagious but x-rays showed something... but they can't tell us anything... Geez!

Lots of strange throwing up of ridiculous amount of mucus..... projectile diahhrea- it is amazing- it stays mucus like a crazy slime spiderweb over everything it touches...

They think he is obstructed in his upper stomachey part.
They want to do exploratory surgery tomorrow...

We got to see him before we left... 600 bucks of Johns already out the window..
He is trying to figure out what to do...
They want 1.4-2 grand to do the exploratory surgery there..

But they did finally mention that a regular vet would be 800...
John is trying to figure out if he can bring him home and do the caster oil bit.

Geez. does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing?

Make Salmon in your Dishwasher

Ok ok - I know this is not a cooking tribe, but it seems to me that it is filled with people who would actually try doing this..... COOK SALMON IN A DISHWASHER!!!! YEAH!!!!!

So here is the recipe from the Surreal Cook, Bob Blumer:

Ingredients for salmon
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 6-ounce salmon fillets
4 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Heavy-duty aluminum foil

Ingredients for cilantro sauce
1 tablespoon butter
1 leek, white part only, finely chopped and thoroughly washed
1 shallot, minced
1 jalapeno chili, seeds and membranes removed, finely diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1-1/2 cups chicken stock
2 cups lightly packed fresh cilantro leaves (stems removed before measuring)
3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons sour cream

SALMON
1. Cut two 12-inch pieces of aluminum foil.
2. Grease the shiny side of the foil with the oil. Place 2 fillets side by side on each square and fold up the outer edges.
3. Pour 1 tablespoon lime juice over each fillet. Season with salt and pepper.
4. Fold and pinch the aluminum foil extra tightly to create a watertight seal around each pair of fillets.
5. Place foil packets on the top rack of the dishwasher. Run dishwasher for the entire wash and dry cycle. (To heighten the theatrics, ask your guests to crowd around the dishwasher when you put the salmon in.)
6. When cycle is complete, take out salmon (in front of your disbelieving guests), discard foil, place one fillet on each plate, and spoon a generous serving of cilantro sauce over top.

CILANTRO SAUCE
1. Melt the butter over medium heat in a saute pan.
2. Add the leek, shallot, jalapeno, and garlic and saute for about 5 minutes, or until the onions are translucent but not brown.
3. Reduce heat to medium and add the stock. Simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes. (Adjust heat as required to simmer.) The liquid should reduce by half.

4. Remove from heat and let cool.
5. Transfer to a blender or food processor and add the cilantro, lime juice, salt, and pepper. Puree until smooth.
6. Add the sour cream and "pulse" until mixed. Set aside.

Le Secret: Make sure the packet is airtight by pressing down on it gently with your hand. If air escapes easily, repackage.
Adventure club: Poach the salmon with yesterday's dishes and lemon-scented dishwasher detergent (I do it this way all the time).
Garnish: Cilantro sprigs.
Suggested Accompaniment: Yellow string beans, steamed and glazed with lemon juice and butter.
Alternatives:
i) Sour cream may be replaced with yogurt.
ii) Chicken broth may be replaced with vegetable broth (for fish-eating vegetarians).

Columbus Arts Fest! Thank you to everyone who participated in our hour long show at the Columbus Arts Fest! Yasmilah, Dharma, Laylia, Deanna, Lael, and Andrea drew quite a crowed with Candle balancing, veils, tray- cabaret and tribal solos and great fun!

Colorado Charity Trip~ Shimmy for the Cure! The trip to Colorado to study with Jim Boz and perform was amazing! Hosted by Selayma it was held in The Scottish Rite Masonic Lodge-Denver Consistory! Jim taught over 5 minutes of choreo and was very precise! It was great to see even Suzanna Del Veccio attend the classes! Hanging out with Jim and Selayma after hours was a riot. At the Friday night hafla at the Morrocan Restaurant Laylia was re-named tenacious J. Paula Norris is really doing amaznig things to document the belly dancing that is happening in the midwest! Not to mention her fun videos where she takes your dancing and syncs it to unexpected and fun music!

The great midwest hafla with 'Tree of life' turned out to be a crazy outdoor festival! They blocked off the street and erected a stage...
I got to see lots of great dancers I wasn't expecting- nataj deniz, jenn, avasa and Carenza's Caravan breakdancers, Anaya Gypsies and more!

It was a packed house as I walked in yesterday! I was totally delighted to see Drevalla and Moriah getting ready to open the show!
Lots of food, kids, henna, and costumes by Melissa.

Chandara is a lamb- you can still videotape your own show- and they ran a few camera's from the side..
It looks like they are going to need a bigger place!

I had to leave at the first break to hit Ruby tuesdays with Deanna and Dharma so I missed all the fabulous performances to follow!
Yasmilah was there and Raks Jahanni! I hope you post your shows on You TUbe!

I'm trying to hit all the local folks for reminders that Saturday May 19th at 5pm The Studio in Huntsville, AL will sponsor a workshop on costuming, hair, & makeup with a photo session combined for a great night of fun! This is especially geared towards students who need some ideas on how to mix and match costumes and learn to get their faces on for performances. Lots of discussion time with local costumers, teachers, and freakie people. Healthy (and not so healthy) munchies will be there for keeping the tummy happy! You need to bring your own drinks beyond the usual water --alcohol IS allowed in The Studio! We will have handouts on websites we enjoy using as well as makeup info, eBAy vendors, and patterns. Come with the lists of ideas you want to discuss and your favorite costuming. We can teach you how to adjust things that don't fit, decorate bras that need tribaling up, and make your face shine for the camera. Don't stress if you don't have much costuming --- we clothes horses will bring our stuff to share as well as some people selling their wares for those of you who could use some harem pants, a belt, or some more mascara. All this fun for only $15 and you'll get a cd of your pics to take home for your own website, tribe profile, or to share with your family.

Big, small, new and pro it was a lot of fun!
It was nice to see Yasmilah and Kira out and Raks Jahanni did their fun and dark locking dance to snake charmer... I bet April was sooooo happy!

It seems the event has passed that period of newness and is really getting shown some love in return! YAY!

What was your favorite part of the evening?

Last night I was soo nervous and exited
Dharma, Lael, Sofia Saharr, Kitty, Andrea, Deanna
Performed at the benefit show for Kira's Oasis last night!

I of course wanted them to do well, but I actually was more worried about them having a great time performing more! No one wants to dance with you if they are miserable dancing! I want them to be proud and feel glad about the experience...

I was hoping Kira would really like the choreography as she has seen a lot of shows. And a non-pro troupe of mine has never danced at the oasis before... Very nervous I was.. Very nervous!!

And of course at the last minute I realized the 2nd song was a song from a CD that the highlighted seminar teacher Roxxane had recommended last year. So I didn't want her to think I was a moron musically (grin)

Anyhow, they were awesome gamers and did the new choreography that I made utilizing the veil!
I am soo tickled they did this because it took major balls!
They learned the second song's choreography including veil about 48hours before the show! Bad me... Bad Bad Laylia..

But you know... sometimes inspiration is just..like the wind.
You do an entire song in an hour... and then it takes a month to finish the next 2 minutes...
I am soo lucky the girls put up with me (Grin)

I am really exited about this piece because it involves veil swapping and some cane trickery! A-muck A-muck A-muck!

This choreography is kinda weird to me, because it doesn't feel, in my brain, like when I dance myself.. Which seems very pointed to a spot and heavy.
even if there are layers.. One thing is the focus...

But this feels more like conducting an orchestra... very fun, but hard to wrap my brains around. Adding 2 or 3 focus points might be a piece of cake for others... but a new playground for me!
It is hilarious attempting to talk about sections and 8's. Which the students did better than me I might add.... The labeling of sections combos etc... so we can all communicate is going to need to get better on my part....
My toes are soooooooo wiggling with this challenge!

What made the whole evening kinda sad was I missed the entire fantastic show...
I had a pre-scheduled private party for an old student of mine, which was very important to her..
But it really makes me appreciate the fact the girls are strong enough, and self aware enough to be at the show and represent me, while being individuals.

It was awesome that Yasmilah called me after the show and let me know how the girls did.. I of course was chomping at the bit to hear how the night went for everyone!
Although I DID had a great time dancing to balliwood music and Shakira's hips don't lie (groan).. when the entire party was up and dancing! And such goooood food there!

Anyhow, Kira's Oasis was a good start since the girls will be performing this at Salome's show this weekend in Columbus! This time we will include the chorus (the new dancers) and I am really exited!
